Quilting Tips

A collection of tips and ideas for today's quilter . . .

Fat Quarter Cuts

How many squares you can get from an 18" x 22" piece of fabric?

6 - 6 1/2" squares

12 - 5 1/2" squares

16 - 4 1/2" squares

30 - 3 1/2" squares

50 - 2 1/2" squares

Mitered Corners

Figure Side Border Strips:  Measure from top to bottom of quilt top's center, including seam allowances. Add twice the width of the border (including seam allowances) to allow for mitering.  Example: If quilt center's side measurement equals 50 1/2", and unfinished border width equals 2 1/2" (2 1/2" for left side border + 2 1/2" for right side border = 5"), you will need two strips measuring 55 1/2".

Figure Top/Bottom Border Strips:  Use same formula as Side Border Strips.
